John Comerford

As a HEAA Director seeking your vote for the office of Vice President, my goal is to bring more alumni into our organization through the development of local chapters and meaningful committee activities geared to meet your interests, needs, and expertise, while increasing the recognition and value of your hard-earned academic credentials.

As a Director, I have had an opportunity to help support local chapters and develop two-way communications between our international alumni base and our Board, resulting in better understanding the needs and interests of our alumni. I will be an active Vice President, hoping to visit each Chapter, at my own expense, to get to know our members and to help link our alumni with local chapters. I also hope to develop the foundation for a long-term fundraising effort in support of scholarships, teaching assistantships, and internships.

By way of background, my career has been a mixture of public and private sector management and entrepreneurism. I have started and served as the CEO of three socially responsible banks, as well as a managing director of the largest socially responsible investment firm in the U.S. I have also served in city (Boston) and federal government (the Carter Administration), as well as starting a low-income community health center and low-income day care center in Boston and more recently a food bank in Seattle.

I earned my ALM in 1984 with a focus on how public policy impacts organizational and individual behavior. This has been at the nexus of my research, having earned graduate degrees from Cambridge and London and a doctorate from Virginia University, a historically black university. At Cambridge, I was elected to the University General Board and the Faculty Board to represent the interests of graduate students.

I humbly ask for your vote for Vice President.
