Join the HEAA California Chapter virtually for “A Discussion of Latinx Futurist and Speculative Writing” led by Angela M. Acosta Ph.D. on Thursday, February 8th, at 4:00 PM PT/7:00 PM ET.
Dr. Acosta will provide an introduction to the genre of speculative literature, covering major texts and authors from the 19th century to the present. The lecture will provide an overview of unique cultural and stylistic features of Latinx, Latin American, and Spanish futurist writers like Ángeles Vicente, Halma Angélico, Ernest Hogan, and Valerie Valdes.
Attendees will learn about groundbreaking Chicanx and Latinx science fiction anthologies, books, and literary magazines whose writers envision livable futures for Latinx people of diverse heritage on Earth and among the stars. Dr. Acosta will end by reading a brief selection of poems from her bilingual chapbook A Belief in Cosmic Dailiness: Poems of a Fabled Universe (Red Ogre Review, 2023).
