Measuring What Matters: The Limits of GDP in Modern Society
While stocks markets and GDP hit record levels, at the same time daily headlines reflect growing concern about inequality, democracy, immigration, job security, crime, health care, and climate change, among other issues. Are governments really failing, or are we simply using the wrong measures of success? In a globalized, digital economy, standard indicators such as GDP, unemployment, and stock market performance can distort our understanding of national well-being and weaken the foundation for sound policy. This talk explores what those measures miss—and what a truly successful society should be measuring instead.
